Die Change Makes its Aerospace Debut
Atlas Technologies, Inc. of Fenton, Michigan announced today the receipt of an order for an innovative die change system for stretch forming presses from Bombardier. The first known die change system of its kind will be delivered in June of 2009.
As the world leader in die change technology, Atlas has developed a concept which ensures the customer immediate improvements in safety and productivity. With stretch forming, there is a tremendous economic burden associated with work in progress. The lack of ability to change dies expeditiously means that parts are formed in larger batches then required and stock piled for future demand. The Atlas die change system will allow Bombardier to change dies up to eight times in one shift thereby significantly impacting their production schedules.
The dangerous and cumbersome task of changing dies via hook and crane will no longer exist for Bombardier. Where operators used to walk on platforms over the press pit to manually change dies, the Atlas die change system will move the die into place quickly and with precise accuracy. Plant safety and ergonomics will dramatically improve.
Atlas Technologies has been building creative automation solutions for over 42 years and has installed over $1 Billion dollars in equipment worldwide. Atlas Technologies strong product offerings include turnkey stamping and fabricating systems, heavy plate and bar steel processing equipment, robotic integration, die change equipment, automatic storage and retrieval equipment, both conventional and robotic stacking and destacking systems and in-press transfers systems.
